How the League Is Structured
MSSL is organized into three primary age groups, each operating as its own division under the broader league umbrella. While each age group has its own standings, schedules, and competition format, all divisions share the same core values, rules framework, and commitment to sportsmanship.
Players may be eligible to participate in more than one age group, provided they meet age requirements and are properly rostered, allowing flexibility for individuals and teams while maintaining competitive integrity.
MSSL Age Groups
Legends (40+)
The Legends division is designed for players aged 40 and over who are looking for a competitive, well-organized league that balances intensity with respect for the game. This division often includes a mix of long-established teams and newer sides, creating a competitive but accessible environment.
Masters (50+)
The Masters division provides a strong competitive platform for players aged 50 and over. This group emphasizes high-level play, consistency, and tactical soccer, with many teams featuring long-tenured players who value structure and reliability in league operations.
Grand Masters (60+)
The Grand Masters division is tailored for players aged 60 and over who want to continue playing in a structured league environment while prioritizing safety, sportsmanship, and enjoyment of the game. This division fosters a strong sense of community and continuity among teams and players.
Shared League Standards
Across all age groups, MSSL operates with a consistent set of standards:
- Clearly defined age eligibility and roster rules
- Certified referees and standardized match regulations
- Emphasis on sportsmanship, respect, and fair play
- Transparent governance and communication
- Alignment with MSA and US Soccer policies
